Exploring Naples Italy in 24 Hours

Italy is a frequented destination for tourists, but some cities are more popular than others. The city of Naples doesn't see nearly as many visitors as does Rome, but there certainly is a lot to do there. If you are traveling to Italy, but don't have a lot of time to spend in Naples, you can see quite a bit of the city in just 24 hours.

The Morning

Start your day off at a cafe. There truly is no better way to experience a cup of coffee and a danish. The locals can also give you recommendations of things to see or do. Once you are finished, head over to Piazza del Plebiscito. This is the main square of Naples and gives an interesting look into the 19th century of the city. Afterwards, head over to Palazzo Reale. This is one of the most popular monuments in the area. It dates back more than 400 years and the palace contains beautiful tapestries and artwork. If you have time, don't forget to take a trek underground and explore the tunnels of Napoli Sotterranea. They date back to 4th century BC and are really a once in a lifetime experience.

The Afternoon

Around noon, take a break to have some pizza. After all, the area is known for it. If pizza just isn't your thing, try some spaghetti or another hearty dish. Once you are finished, head on over to a castle. Either Castel dell Ovo or Castel Nuova are good choices. They were both meticulously built and offer a lot of history to tourists. If you have time, make sure you visit the Museum of City History or the Duomo as both are worth the trip.

The Evening

After exploring the city al day, you must have a good meal and a glass of wine! There are a lot of great restaurants in the area, including Al Faretto. While pasta is usually the signature dish, the seafood is also phenomenal in Naples. After dinner, relax at Villa Comunale and enjoy the shoreline. If your stomach can handle it, stop for dessert before you head back to your hotel room or head over to one of the local bars to have a drink and listen to some of the live music that often takes place. Enoteca Belledonne and Cammarota Spritz are both excellent choices and tend to have friendly locals that are more than willing to recommend a good drink.
