Day 2 - Day 2 – Private Sightseeing in SienaIn its 1995 inscription of Siena as a World Heritage Site, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) described this fine Tuscan town as “the embodiment of a medieval city.” Built on three hills and connected by three major streets that intersect in the famed Piazza del Campo, the entire city was conceived as a work of art to blend in to the beauty of its surrounding landscape. In the centuries since, the residents of Siena, long ago and present-day, have done a remarkable job of preserving their town’s Gothic landmarks. In addition, more than 4 miles of Siena’s original defensive walls still surround the city, punctuated by impressive gates like the
Porta Camollia on the road to Florence.
